College tours are typically designed to give prospective students an opportunity to explore colleges and universities, learn about academic programs, and get a feel for the campus culture. Tours allow students to get a firsthand look so they are able to make more informed decisions when applying and ultimately attending school. Students typically have the opportunity to hear from current students, connect with the admissions department, receive financial aid information, and taste college dining hall food. Many African American students are not afforded the chance to tour multiple colleges, even less so Historically Black Colleges and Universities. These tours were designed to address the need for exposure to these institutions of higher learning and the legacy that lives within these campuses.​​
